Dearly beloved, we are gathered here today to say goodbye to a dear friend, lover, and helpmate in times of trouble. We’ve been through many ups and downs, learned from one another, and have shared enough laughs to last a lifetime. Still, even with these precious memories in mind, it’s time to say our farewells to aleyarion.com.
At least until the New Year.
(Did I have you worried for a second?)
Look, y’all, I’m tired…. like TYYY-DE!
I’ve probably said it in every post since October, but 2017 whooped me a–.
This year taught me that I have grit. That I’m tenacious and more than a conquer. I was able to turn my hardships into opportunities for growth and it’s built my confidence in ways I never knew were possible. I stand (more like sit) here before you a better woman because of the trials that God put in front of me to be victorious over.
Back in July, I made a decision to be more consistent with my blog and that meant sharing posts (in some capacity) two times a week. Even with not having Wi-Fi at home and having to travel by foot somedays to get to the library or McDonald’s just to make an upload, I made it happen and I’m proud of me for that.I’ve also committed to getting my writing on larger platforms and began freelancing. This decision has allowed me to become a contributing writer for three sites all in the last 2 months. It’s been overwhelming and has forced me to study up on my craft (since I didn’t major in journalism) but when you have the passion, everything else falls in line.
Now, my intentions when writing this post was not to be braggadocios by any means. But dang it, sometimes you have to pat yourself on the back because 1.) ain’t nobody gonna root for you like you gone root for you, and 2.) at the start of the year, I was so down on myself about “what I haven’t achieved,” that I began to neglect all that I had!
Which takes me back to my previous point: I’m TIRED!
In this “work, grind, hustle, #teamnosleep, sleep when you’re dead” culture we live in, you can get trapped in the mindset that says if you don’t have something to post about, it’s deemed as laziness or a glitch in your Girl Boss nervous system, but after watching a sermon by Pastor Toure Roberts of One L.A. Church, it got me thinking….
He mentioned how as creatives, when we create, we are creating out of ourselves, meaning that if you consistently created and released creative energy – at a high rate – you would literally and figuratively, die.
Do you think I’d tell you to stop and if was going to take you backward in some way? I’m telling you to stop so I can move you into the next dimension. I’m telling you to stop so I can put something new and fresh on the inside of you.
Ever noticed how overwhelmed and anxious and like we’re not doing enough? When we’re paying attention to what everyone else is “doing,” we get tricked into thinking that if we’re not doing anything at that particular moment, we’re failing to some capacity. But really, rest is good! Cyclically, it’s a pretty morbid concept that I pray our generation can learn how to balance.
But I’m taking my own advice and for the rest of the year, I’m resting.
Sure, I’ll be writing – “Cause that’s what I do” – but as far as the whole fast-paced nature of grinding and hustling myself into the ground, it’s gonna be a hard pass for me, dawg.
I’m trusting God.
I’m leaning into Him.
I know that God sat me down because what’s next for me is going to require a new level of strength and rest, and I have to make sure I’m ready for that.
So, no, I’m not worried about losing followers or views. I couldn’t care less. In the same breath, it takes another level of faith to stop because you’re trusting God to keep it going for you while you recover. But I’m not going preach today, y’all gotta pay me for that (lmbooo).
Anyway, of course, I’ll have more planned for my aleyarion.com family come 2018, but in the meantime, I have to get my mind, heart, and spirit right to make it happen.
With that, I pray rest over your life. If you need to take some time to recuperate, take it. Social media will still be there, the end of Net Neutrality won’t kick in for another 6 months or so.
I love every single one of y’all and warmest thank you for rocking with the kid for another year!
Have a Happy New Year!
Peace, peace, peace,
