For the last few weeks, I’ve felt like my life was on cruise control.

As if I’ve been riding on the passager side of this trip through life while my anxieties, worries, and self-doubt took the steering wheel.

This is unacceptable.

At work, I tend to pass the time by listening to podcasts and inspirational videos in the background as I plug away in excel sheets. I’m a firm believer in putting the right stuff into your spirit because some songs and artists can catastrophically affect your entire mood. One day last week, I was at work, right in the middle of a what-am-I-doing-with-my-life-why-am-I-here self-loathing episode, when a video by Shameless Maya came up as a suggestion on my YouTube page. The video was entitled: “How to Get Everything You Want in 2017”:

Now, as many of you know, I didn’t start my year off the way I had planned to, and ever since making this realization, I have been on the constant journey to get back on track. I think I’m finally getting there. I wouldn’t say that it’s solely because of this video, but it’s been a culmination of life events, prayer, and meditation that have allowed me to arrive here.

One of the very first points that Maya addresses is knowing what you want. This alone rang deep in me because one of the things that set me back from starting the year off right was that I didn’t know what I wanted out of it. 2016 was such a life changing and exhilarating year for me that I didn’t know how I could go up from there. But one of the great things my dad shared with me when I informed him of my funk, was that I still had goals to achieve that weren’t yet marked off of my vision board. Which takes me back to Maya’s video.

One of her key tips is writing down what you want to see out of your life, whether that is in the form of daily, weekly, monthly or yearly goals. As a writer, so inevitably, I write down literally e v e r y t h i n g. My to-do lists, my blog post ideas, scriptures, grocery lists, quotes, important dates, e v e r y t h i n g! So you can imagine the frustration I felt towards myself I couldn’t conceptualize my own thoughts into a vision board that had become an annual tradition for over 5 years now.

Althought I now have a vision board and have been keeping up with it for the last few months, I was still feeling like it wasn’t enough, that I need an extra something-something to keep me on track.

Maya shares a manifesto that she created that personifies the declaration she made to herself a little over 5 years ago when she decided to live her life shamelessly. This manifesto is a pledge, a contract, if you will, to yourself that you will “abandon fear and shamelessly live out your dreams.” We can say all we want about what we want in this life, but without the proper action, commitment, and hustle behind it, their just words. Unfortunately, motivation is so fickle; we need to make up our minds to seek change and it’s an everyday decision. So this month, I’m getting down with the the get-down. I’ve made a promise to myself to me more consistent, end procrastination, and shamelessly promote myself beyond my comfort zone, as the manifesto declares.giphy (20).gifI feel so encourage, ya’ll. April was just a dark month for me with so many ups and downs, but the Lord came through for ya girl. Because of His faithfulness, I want to give my time back to Him by walking in the knowledge that I am fearfully and wonderfully made in his image and I got thangs to do on this Earth for His glory. And you do too.

Will you join me?
