Last week, I took a spontaneous trip to New York City.
Well… it was more like a trip of faith.
No, there weren’t any extravagant celebrity encounters and I didn’t do any of the cliché activities that tourist normally do when they’re in the big city (except for visit Time Square, which took my breath away). Instead, I was working… on something… but I’ll get to that in my later posts.
As I developed this piece, I realized that there was no way I could fit everything that happened (or didn’t) into one post. So I’m dividing my experience into a three part series to answer the what’s and why’s of my trip.To start things off, let’s talk about what I wore.
I’m not going to lie, it’s been a long time since I’ve done an #OOTD post (for reasons I’ll share way, way in the future), so I thought it would only be right to let you all in on how I stepped out in the city.
My trip to New York lasted for two full days, but I wasn’t able to capture my first look because I was ripping, running, and returning emails all day. But day two permitted a little more time for me to take pictures. So let’s get into it:
As I was packing, I thought to myself, “how can I be cute & comfortable without trying too hard and still look like I belong here?” Then the minimalist inside of me spoke up and directed me to an outfit that accomplished exactly what I was going for.
In this look, I wore a maxi dress with a gradient print that flowed off my body like the Nile River. And you may already be able to tell, from the overly cheesy grin throughout my pictures, I really love this dress 😉 I thought a cool way to take the dress from summer to fall would be to layer a black sweater, which came off cropped since I added a neat side knot to it. To complete the look, I added a silver statement necklace and black choker with my studded black booties.
What are your thoughts on the look? Let me know in the comment section below. And stay tuned for part two of my “Aley Hits NYC” series, there’s so much more to talk about!!
You’ve just been served.
