Sup Royalty,

I’m back with another installment of “Where Raised You?” In this feature, we’ll take a look at the raw, uncensored, and unorthodox styles of a Brooklyn, New York native. Thiago’s style is one for the books; literally. I must say that I’ve only seen a style like his from reblogged Tumblr post and urban street style sites, so it’s quite an honor to have such dope style grace my blog. His audacious personality shines through his personal style and shows that he’s not afraid to break rules and create his own.

Chicago born, and Flatbush, Brooklyn raised; Thiago has seen his fair share of trials growing up. Since the age of eight, he’s been providing for his self and boldly confesses that he is the influence behind his personal style; wearing what makes him happy on a daily basis. But coming from a vastly diverse background in Brooklyn to attending a HBCU in the rural South has gotten him labeled as an oddball or even the “ugly duckling” through campus. Nevertheless, he owns this title as his trademark and continues to represent his individualistic style as the new school Ol’ Dirty Bastard. If there is any advice that he could give to those trying to find their personal style, it would be to, “Wear whatever you feel comfortable in. Don’t try to fit in, don’t try to do what everyone else is doing; just do what you want to do.”

It was such a pleasure getting to speak with Thiago, but the real fun came during the photo-shoot. With the help of a friend, we went all around campus scouting different locations that would challenge the norm. These shots express the complexity of one’s personal style when trying to fit into society’s standards. When you are being the most authentic “you” that you can possibly be, you won’t always fit in, and you may be looked at the wrong way; but it is important to stay true to your inner self and allow your surroundings to adjust to your presence. Not the other way around.

Check out the pictures below and tell me what you think. I love reading your comments, so feel free to share your views. What makes you stand out as an individual?

when i first set out to create my blog, i just wanted an outlet to balance my mundane college schedule. but over the years, it has become so much more. writing is how i process my world & the events that take place within it. through, i seek to help my fellow 20-somethings, like me, working to find light when their paths seem darkened and learn from my mistakes so i can save you the trouble of repeating them. is witty, vulnerable, and transparent, but most importantly, it's me, unapologetically. peace, peace, peace Aley Arion business inquiries:
